After his late-night heist goes wrong, Haiden is blackmailed into stealing a vicious monster from the royal family in order to avoid being burnt to death for being a necromancer. 

There’s just one problem: he’s a terrible thief. 

Instead of capturing the monster, he accidentally releases it, and is then forced to go on an adventure with a group of highborn and his miniature dragon to get the monster back. 

On the positive, Haiden’s always wanted to see the world.  Except his dreams never involved being stuck with Sir Caldus, a renowned necromancer hunter, who Haiden might be catching feelings for.

As Haiden becomes closer to Caldus, as he sees more of his country and the devastation his mistake has caused, as the truth of his powers are revealed, he begins to question if the hunters are right. Maybe Haiden deserves to burn.
